80%

of skin ageing is caused by UV — not genetics

PA++++

Minimum UVA rating recommended for Indian skin tones

SPF 50

Ideal minimum for daily use in India

UVA rays penetrate glass. You need sunscreen even on cloudy days and indoors near windows.

1

Step one

Know your skin type first

Your skin type determines which sunscreen texture will actually work for you. The wrong texture is the main reason people skip SPF entirely.

Oily / Acne-prone

Gel-based · Matte finish · Non-comedogenic

Dry skin

Cream / Lotion · Hydrating formula

Combination

Fluid / Lightweight · Balancing

Sensitive / Post-treatment

Mineral SPF only · Zinc oxide · Fragrance-free

Normal skin

Any formulation works well

2

Step two

Understand SPF & PA ratings

India has intense UVA and UVB exposure year-round. Both ratings matter equally — SPF for burning, PA for tanning, pigmentation and ageing.

SPF — blocks UVB (sunburn)

Minimum dailySPF 30
Ideal for IndiaSPF 50
Outdoors / sportsSPF 50+

PA — blocks UVA (tanning + ageing)

MinimumPA++
RecommendedPA+++
Indian summerPA++++
Key rule for Indian skin: Always choose SPF 50 PA++++ — UVA rays are the primary cause of melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and dark spots in deeper skin tones.
3

Step three

Match to your skin concern

One formula doesn’t serve all skin goals. Choose based on your primary concern for better results.

Pigmentation / Melasma

Tinted SPF or niacinamide-infused formula

Acne-prone

Non-comedogenic · zinc-based mineral SPF

Anti-ageing

SPF with Vitamin C or antioxidants

Post-peel / Post-treatment

Mineral SPF 50 only — no chemical filters

Dark spots

SPF with tranexamic acid or kojic acid

5

Step five

How to apply correctly

Correct application is as important as the product. Most people use less than half the required amount, reducing protection significantly.

01

Apply 15–20 minutes before going out

Sunscreen needs time to form a protective film. Applying right before stepping out reduces effectiveness.

02

Use ¼ teaspoon (2 finger-lengths) for the face

Most people apply too little. Under-application means you’re getting a fraction of the stated SPF protection.

03

Cover ears, neck, and back of hands

Pigmentation and ageing appear first in these areas — yet they’re most commonly missed.

04

Reapply every 2 hours outdoors

SPF breaks down with sweat, touch, and UV exposure. One application in the morning is not enough for all-day protection.

05

Apply on cloudy days and indoors

UVA rays penetrate clouds and glass windows. Sitting near a window indoors still causes slow cumulative UV damage.

!

Important

Face vs body sunscreen — why they’re different

Don’t use face SPF on your body — it’s expensive per ml and formulated for a small surface area. Body sunscreens are built for larger coverage, sweat, and movement.

Face SPF

Lighter, non-comedogenic texture

Formulated for small surface area

Higher cost per ml

Not always water-resistant

Body SPF

Lotion / thicker base for large areas

Better cost-per-ml value

Water-resistant options available

Designed for sweat and movement

1

Step one

Choose by activity level

Your body receives more UV exposure than your face in Indian summers — especially arms, neck, legs, and décolletage.

Daily commute

SPF 30–50 · Regular lotion or spray formula

Outdoor work / sports

SPF 50+ water resistant · Reapply every 2 hours

Beach / Pool

SPF 50+ water resistant · Reapply every 80 minutes

Post-treatment

Mineral SPF 50 only · No chemical filters on treated skin

3

Step three

Body application — how much & where

Most people apply 25–50% of the required amount. Under-applying gives you only a fraction of the stated SPF protection.

01

Full body = 35ml (a shot glass)

Arms and legs alone need 15–20ml. Most tubes run out faster than expected for good reason.

02

Apply 20 minutes before sun exposure

Same rule as face — allows the formula to bind to skin before UV exposure begins.

03

Reapply every 2 hours / 80 min if sweating

Sweat and movement break down SPF protection significantly. Reapplication is non-negotiable outdoors.

04

Cover back of neck, décolletage & tops of feet

These areas age and pigment fastest in Indian sun but are most commonly skipped.

Most common mistake: Applying only on arms and forgetting the neck, décolletage, and hands — these show pigmentation and ageing earliest. Sun damage here is cumulative and largely irreversible.
A pump-bottle formulation for daily body SPF dramatically improves consistency. Compliance improves when application is fast and easy.
